Performance
Matt plays solo and with cittern accompaniment by Edinburgh musician and pipemaker Nigel Richard. He also gives talks and leads workshops tailored to suit both general and specialist audiences.
Matt is a founder member of The Border Directors ceilidh and concert band. Based in Morpeth, the BDs play all over the UK, and in 2002 did a short tour of France and Germany. See the Gallery page for pictures
In 2000-2001 Matt collaborated with Mr McFall's String Quartet, who are members of the eclectically adventurous Mr McFall's Chamber and of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. They developed, performed and recorded a full concert programme which includes the Border Seasons Suite for Pipes and Strings, composed by Matt and arranged by Matt and Robert McFall. The pipes and strings combination, with its unique repertoire, is available for festival and other performances.
Reviews usually tell you more about the reviewer than what they are reviewing, but here are two extracts from Border Seasons CDreviews where the reviewers actually got the point of the exercise:
"There is one hell of a lot of imagination at work here... it'll certainly lift your spirits." - fRoots 229
"It is as a collection of beautiful new pipe airs in the Border tradition that this recording is outstanding. Some of them will make your heart melt" - Bagpipe Society
